About Samantha

I completed my undergraduate degree in Chemical Biology at McMaster University, along with a minor in French. During my studies, I completed two 8‑month industry research co‑op placements at Spectral Medical and Zymeworks Inc., gaining experience in protein expression, purification, and drug delivery. In academia, I completed my undergraduate thesis under Dr. Todd Hoare, developing naturally derived electrospun polysaccharide biomaterials for wound‑healing applications. Currently, in the Maikawa Lab, I am excited to work on stimuli‑responsive materials such as hydrogel systems and explore their potential in theranostic applications. Outside the lab, I love travelling, backcountry camping, hiking, snowboarding, cooking, and spending time with my family and friends.
